Meet the authors of these books.

Susanna Kaysen

Her book, "Girl, Interrupted," is the account of her life and time in the McLean Hospital. In this book Kaysen recalls her time there as well as includes medical records from her time there. She has written other books about her life and her experiences with mental illness.

Shannon McLinden

Her book, "The Me Nobody Knew," is her memory of growing up as a depressed teenager that also battled anorexia. McLean's goal is to help others realize that their life is worth it. After struggling through life herself, she is on a mission to make sure that others make it through like she did.

Shaun Tan

His book, "The Red Tree," deals with feelings of loneliness and depression. Tan often captures the human emotion through social struggles. He is well known for his work with surreal images to tell a moving story. Through imagery he feels that the deepest emotion can be expressed in a way that can be understood.
